Sydney Traffic Blues
Copyright Caroline Hooimeyer 2001
Sunday afternoon, blue skies, travellers on their afternoon ride.
Blue cars, green cars, racing here, racing there,
Horns honking, children screaming, does anyone really care?
Rushing, fast mechanical animals controlled ny self-centred mammals.
Lights flashing, red, yellow and green but yet unseen.
People yell, brakes crunch, wheels screech,
Another road rule they just had to breech.
Bang!Crash!Glass flies!Women and children begin to cry.
Angry men, words fly , while unnoticed a body lies.
Still semi-conscious with immense pain,
Oh!The cruelty of this world is so insane.
Life is so unfair in a world that seems not to care.
Death is here and sorrow seems here to stay,
Yet, it is amazing how quickly it goes away.
So the caring of life is continuously abused,
And here I sit in my car with the Sydney Traffic Blues.
